TOUR DESCRIPTION :
Escorted by your professional driver/guide discover one of the largest forest of old oak and pine trees, 50 km south of Paris.
Today we judge our politicians by their media presence and the contents of their speeches, while in the Middle Ages, the king had to be a good hunter to win the respect of the people. This is why the palace of Fountainbleau was built in the middle of a forest, so the king could be seen as a true hunter, and so that when he hunted, it would be in the best possible conditions. In the almost eight centuries of this palace’s existence, it has often witnessed central events in French history. The coronation of Louis VII was celebrated here. Francois I enhanced the beauty of the palace in the Renaissance period. Under Henry VI it became a summer residence with a special garden added for Diane in which the French and English garden concepts were harmonized.

On your tour, you will visit the palace’s interior, the king’s apartment, the Grand Ballroom, the Francois I gallery and Napoleon’s throne room.

On the return trip to Paris you will stop in the small village of Barbizon, where in the 19th Century the local peasants and hunters welcomed the many artists who had come to paint the landscapes of the Forest of Fountainbleau, among whom were: Theodore Rousseau, Millet, Monet and Charles Jacques. These artists became known as the Barbizon School and they prepared the way for Impressionism.
