TOUR DESCRIPTION:

Escorted by your multilingual driver or professional driver/guide you will drive through France’s breadbasket, one of the richest agricultural regions of France.

Then out of the middle of nowhere you will see a silhouette like a great vessel of stone above an ocean of wheat : Chartres Cathedral. Partly built in 1445 over a period of 26 years, Chartres represents the high point of French Gothic architecture.
Your guide will describe and show you the vast nave, the royal portal adorned with sculptures. You will learn how to decrypt the secret messages. On the west façade you will see one tower in flamboyant gothic style while the other one was crafted in the Romanesque style. Chartres Cathedral houses over 150 beautiful stained glass windows, illustrating scenes from the Bible that containing hidden meanings. Each window is divided in panels, and when read from left to right, bottom to top, with the assistance of your tour guide, will reveal to you the secret messages of the main windows: the tree of Jesse, the blue Virgin window, Mary Magdalene and the redemption window.

There is also a Labyrinth inlaid in the floor of the church’s nave that was used by pilgrims as penance. Your guide will give you help you find the secret to finding the exit.

In the Apsidal chapel you will discover the treasure of the cathedral including the veil of the virgin.
Returning to Paris, we will pass through the medieval sections of the city of Chartres
